An unethical and fiscally irresponsible leader who treats the institutional resources like his personal slush fund. His work is produced via AI and he takes credit for subordinates work product.

Eric regularly harasses direct and indirect reports, uses his position of power to create a pervasive culture of fear, & inappropriately uses library funds for his travel and pet projects. The reviews here and on other workplace review websites confirm this. He has surrounded himself with people who only enable his terrible behavior & worst instincts. His selfishness, vanity, and narcissism are running rampant and destroying the lives of other library staff, and the library as an institution. He postures as a great and visionary leader and manager, as well as a field leading scholar when in reality he is a vapid, mean, unoriginal bully in a position of power + fear over other library staff members. He uses AI for the majority of his “research” and writing, despite his claims of being an important scholar. He insists on hiring white males only & amplifying those white male voices. For the sake of your emotional and mental health, DO NOT WORK FOR HIM OR THE ORGS HE “LEADS.”

Eric has presided over the collection budget being basically zeroed out. What good is a library that doesn’t collect anything? He also makes the cute, young guys uncomfortable, pushes women out of the company, and has no idea what he is doing at a library. We spend money to get experts to help guide the organization and he does the exact opposite of their recommendations. Don’t trust him. Don’t listen to him. Don’t waste your time.

Eric has repeatedly asked me out to drinks and tried to socialize with me in improper ways. He keeps making me uncomfortable. I would report him to the board of directors but we have been told that we will be fired if we attempt to go around the chain of command. I’m desperately looking for a new job to get out of this hell hole.

This guy is a complete fraud. He literally uses AI for everything, plagerizes, and doesn't have an original thought in his head. This used to be a great place to work and now it's an old boys network of toadies and lackeys. Eric and his CFO partner in crime have destroyed the instution, run off anyone who could actually do their job, and made the place absolutely miserable. Run, don't walk, away from this tool.

A toadie (or toady) is a servile flatterer or sycophant. It refers to someone who excessively praises, fawns over, or behaves submissively toward people of power or authority, usually in hopes of gaining a personal advantage, favors, or preferential treatment.
